$100 for Transit Benefits Beats $100 in the Tank!

UPDATE: On March 1, 2024, Council adopted the new Special MOU on City Employee Parking and Commute Options (Special Parking MOU) which approved the permanent incentive increase of up to $100.

UPDATE: On January 11, 2024, the Joint Labor-Management Committee Commute Options & Parking approved a three-month extension, from January 2024 to March 2024, to the temporary transit incentive increase.

The City of Los Angeles COMMUTEwell Program currently provides a subsidy of $50 per month for eligible City employees who take the bus, train, bike, or walk to work. As a special promotion, between July 2022 and December 2023*, COMMUTEwell is increasing the subsidy to a maximum of $100 each month.

Eligible City employees can take advantage of this special incentive through the following COMMUTEwell programs:

Transit Subsidy Reimbursement
Provides up to a $100 reimbursement each month for approved public transit commuting purchases. Receipts for qualified purchases must be submitted to the COMMUTEwell office each quarter for reimbursement. For more information, click here.

Transit Spending Account
Allows employees to set aside up to $300 per month on a pre-tax basis to pay for transit expenses, while also providing a Transit Match of up to $100 per month. Paying with pre-tax dollars reduces the net cost from your paycheck. Transit passes/tickets can be purchased directly through the City's service provider, WageWorks. For more information, click here.

Bike/Walk Subsidy Reimbursement
Provides a monthly subsidy of $100 to individuals who commute from home to work via bicycling or walking. Certain City facilities (City Hall East and Figueroa Plaza) provide showers and lockers for those biking to work. For more information, click here.

Please note that an employee can only take advantage of the City subsidy for one of these programs each month. These subsidies are not available to employees who have been issued a parking permit for a City-managed lot. *Extended through March 2024
