Way to Go, Earth Month Winners! Now It's Your Turn to Try a More Sustainable Commute

Source: COMMUTEwell

This past April, COMMUTEwell held an Earth Month campaign to help Los Angeles City employees better understand the environmental impact of single-passenger driving. With each post, Instagram followers participated in environmental polls and were entered into giveaways. Congratulations to the winners listed below!

  • Hannah Baang - Personnel Department

  • Alexa Vasquez – Planning Department

  • Bryan Ochoa – Department of Transportation

  • Gregory Bolten - Public Works Department

Why It Matters

Transportation is a major contributor to pollution in Los Angeles County, where personal vehicles dominate how most people get around. In fact, transportation emissions account for roughly 20% of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the region (LADOT).

GHGs trap heat and lower air quality, leading to serious environmental consequences and increased risk of respiratory illness.

What You Can Do

The good news? Sustainable transportation is accessible, widespread, and ready to use throughout Los Angeles County. Every time you walk, bike, take the bus or train, or share a ride, you help reduce traffic, cut emissions, and improve air quality for everyone. COMMUTEwell supports Los Angeles City employees with tools and incentives to make these choices more convenient and affordable.

Here’s how COMMUTEwell can help:

  • Carpool and Vanpool Support: Assistance finding or starting a carpool or vanpool, plus available subsidies.

  • Bike Facilities: Select City facilities, such as City Hall East and Figueroa Plaza, offer showers and/or lockers for employees who bike to work.

  • Guaranteed Ride Home: Need to get home in an emergency? You can leave your car at home with peace of mind, knowing you have a reliable way to get back if needed.

Need help figuring out your best commute? COMMUTEwell offers personalized commute assistance to help you understand your options and find the most efficient, sustainable route based on where you live and work. We can walk you through bike routes, transit schedules, park-and-ride options, vanpool matches, and more.
