Occasional Parking

What Is Occasional Parking?

Occasional parking is a backup option for eligible City employees who primarily commute using public transit, rideshare, vanpool, carpool, or active transportation through a qualifying COMMUTEwell program. It's designed for those days when your regular commute simply isn't possible — it is not a substitute for a parking permit or a regular parking arrangement.

Lot 7, near the corner of Temple & Judge Aiso Streets, is the main location for occasional parking for all rideshare users. Smaller lots for department-specific employees may also be available and are subject to change.

Parking is first-come, first-served. Being on the occasional parking list does not guarantee a space on any given day. Availability varies by lot and time of day.

Who Is Eligible?

To use occasional parking, you must:

  • Be an eligible, active City of Los Angeles employee, and

  • Be an active participant in one of the qualifying COMMUTEwell programs listed below.

Qualifying COMMUTEwell Programs

  • Transit Reimbursement

  • Transit Spending Account

  • Carpool

  • Vanpool

  • Bike/Walk to Work

When Your Access Begins

Once enrolled, your name will appear on the parking sign-in list starting the following month, provided your enrollment is submitted at least five business days before that month begins. Otherwise, access will begin the month after.

Enroll Once — No Monthly Reapplication

Enrollment is one-time, not monthly. Once you're on the list, you stay on it as long as you remain an eligible City employee and an active participant in a qualifying COMMUTEwell program. There is no monthly form to re-submit.

We periodically review program participation records. If you are no longer actively participating in a qualifying program, you will be removed from the list and notified by email. You're welcome to re-enroll at any time once you've resumed participation.

Important Reminders

Occasional parking is a privilege, not an entitlement. It exists to support employees who are making a genuine effort to commute sustainably. If you stop participating in your qualifying COMMUTEwell program, you may not use occasional parking — even if your name is still on the list.

Misuse may result in removal. Employees found to be using occasional parking without actively participating in a qualifying COMMUTEwell program will have their access revoked and may be ineligible for future participation in the occasional parking benefit.

How to Enroll

Enrollment is self-service and takes only a minute. Just complete the online enrollment form — there's no pre-approval process and no waiting period tied to program tenure.

When you enroll, you attest that you currently participate in (or intend to enroll in) a qualifying COMMUTEwell program.
