Occasional Parking Has a New Process

Starting in May 2026, eligible City employees can enroll themselves in occasional parking through a simple online form — no more waiting a full quarter to be added manually.

What Is Occasional Parking? (e.g. Lot 7)

Occasional parking is a backup option for eligible City employees who primarily commute using public transit, rideshare, vanpool, carpool, or active transportation through a qualifying COMMUTEwell program. It is designed for those days when your regular commute simply isn't possible — it is not a substitute for a parking permit or a regular parking arrangement. Lot 7, near the corner of Temple & Judge Aiso Streets, is the main location for occasional parking for all rideshare users. Smaller lots for department-specific employees may become available and are subject to change.

Parking is first-come, first-served. Being on the occasional parking list does not guarantee a space on any given day. Availability varies by lot and time of day.

What's Changing?

Previously, employees had to participate in a qualifying COMMUTEwell program for a full quarter before being manually added to the parking list. With the new process, you can enroll yourself right away through a simple online form.

Enroll Once — You Don't Have to Reapply Each Month

Enrollment is one-time, not monthly. Once you submit the online form, your name stays on the occasional parking sign-in list as long as you remain an eligible City employee and an active participant in a qualifying COMMUTEwell program. There is no monthly form to re-submit and no need to re-enroll at the start of each month.

How It Works

  • Self-service enrollment — If you think you might need occasional parking access, you must actively add yourself to the list using the online enrollment form.

  • Faster access — Once enrolled, your name will appear on the parking sign-in list starting the following month if your enrollment is submitted at least five business days before that month. Otherwise, access will begin the month after. No more waiting for a full quarter of program participation.

  • Attestation-based — When you enroll, you attest that you currently participate in (or intend to enroll in) a qualifying COMMUTEwell program. No pre-approval is required.

  • Ongoing verification — We periodically review program participation records. If you are not actively participating in a qualifying program, you will be removed from the list and notified by email.

Qualifying COMMUTEwell Programs

You must be an active participant in one of the following:

  • Transit Reimbursement

  • Transit Spending Account

  • Carpool

  • Vanpool

  • Bike/Walk to Work

Who Is Eligible?

  • You must be an eligible, active City employee.

  • You must be an active participant in one of the qualifying COMMUTEwell programs listed above.

Important Reminders

Occasional parking is a privilege, not an entitlement. It exists to support employees who are making a genuine effort to commute sustainably. If you stop participating in your qualifying COMMUTEwell program, you may not use occasional parking — even if your name is still on the list.

Misuse may result in removal

Employees found to be using occasional parking without actively participating in a qualifying COMMUTEwell program will have their access revoked and may be ineligible for future participation in the occasional parking benefit.

Ready to Enroll?

It only takes a minute. To be on the occasional parking list starting in May, submit your enrollment by April 24, 2026.
