waymo opens robotaxi service to all in los angeles

Waymo has expanded its robotaxi service to the general public in Los Angeles, allowing anyone within an 80-square-mile area to hail an autonomous vehicle using the Waymo One app. This move follows months of limited service to select passengers and builds on Waymo’s operations in other cities, including Phoenix and San Francisco.

The service features Jaguar I-PACE electric SUVs and highlights advancements in autonomous vehicle technology. According to Waymo’s safety data, its self-driving cars have 81% fewer airbag-deployment crashes and 72% fewer injury-causing crashes compared to human-driven vehicles. While some passengers remain cautious about riding in autonomous vehicles, others view them as a safer alternative to traditional ride-hailing options.

To learn more or request a ride, download the Waymo One app.
